Welcome Coo Coo and Millie!

Millie the punk rock hamster (she was the only one with spikey fur)
Kieran and Coo Coo

Excuse the untucked shirt- she's got an intestinal bug and it's easy access for frequent diaper changes
No need to call PETA, people. Contrary to what it looks like, she's very gentle with her. She's just handing her back to me.

I don't know why but for the past month Kieran has been asking for a hamster. I'd tell him "Maybe someday when you get a little older." and he would reply with "But I want a pet." We have 4 cats! Apparently he does not consider them pets.

Today I took the kids to Petsmart to pick up some cat food. We always visit the fish, cats, birds and so on. He gets to the cage of hamsters and starts on the "Mommy look, a hamster!" As we're looking at the Dwarf Hamsters (the really little ones) he points to the white albino one and says "Mommy, he's my pet. His name is Coo Coo. I love him. We have to get him a house and food and....." I originally said no to him. Today has been a rough day let alone being a rough week. He has really had a hard time in the morning when Tripp leaves. He cries and is really genuinely sad because he misses his Daddy. It's been going on for a few weeks. After a few minutes I thought that maybe it would be a good morning distraction for him. They're really little, they don't take up too much space and they say they only live 2-3 years. (a selling point for Daddy)

Kieran picks out Coo Coo for himself and Millie for Jenna. They're both girls but you can't convince Kieran of this. He will tell you you're wrong. Petsmart only sells the females. He thinks Coo Coo is a boy and Millie is a girl. Ok, kid. She's a boy. We could only get 2 if we got them from the same litter. Otherwise they'll kill eachother when they hit hamster puberty. Darn those hormones.

The kids have been so excited about them. Both are really great with them. I was very surprised. Even Jenna holds them well, although it may not look like it in the picture above. She was trying to hand her back to me. The hard part is getting the kids to leave them alone. Kieran keeps checking on them and making sure they're ok. He doesn't believe me that they need a nap. I tried to explain that they're nocturnal but he doesn't care. What 3 year old does?
Oh, and I forgot to buy cat food.

Michelle,
They look so cute with them. I like the way Coo Coo is on Kieran's shoulder.
